Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. 13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. 15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. 16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

What’s in a name? My name means discerner of fine wines. The Greek for Dennis is Dionysius. As a pastor I have learned that I am a discerner of fine whines. Everyone whines to the pastor. Doug means Dweller in the Dark Stream Ben means Son of the right hand, right hand man Louie means famous Warrior Marissa means of the sea. Loretta means Laurel branch George means farmer Jeremy means God will uplift.

In this passage there are three names given for the returning Jesus. Acts: in this same manner as he went into heaven he will return. The climax of history as we know it is coming with the return of Jesus.

Trust the Faithfulness of Jesus Faithful and True

Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself.

“When we are faithless He is faithful.” 2 Timothy 2:13 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” John 14:6

Ever hear someone say, “That’s not fair.” Well let me assure you that the evil in the world will one day find its punishment; and it will be led by the one with crowns on His head. Not many heads but one unlike the evil one. His eyes are like a flame of fire. No one knows His name. He is revealing His name right here. He is faithful and true.

It’s good for us to remember that this dramatic display of judgment comes only at the end of a long time of grace, patience, and mercy. This is no “rush to judgment.” Jesus has amply displayed His nature of mercy, forgiveness and grace to this fallen world. He comes now to judge a world hardened and totally given over to their rebellion against Him. Enduring Word commentary.

Remember that He does it all in righteousness. “The wars which he wages are from no principle of ambition, lust of power, or extension of conquest and dominion; they are righteous in their principle and in their object. And this is perhaps what no earthly potentate could ever say.” (Clarke)   But as for our King, it is in righteousness that he doth judge and make war. Christ’s kingdom needs no deception: the plainest speech and the clearest truth - these are the weapons of our warfare.” (Spurgeon)

But not only that: He is the Word of God.

Believe Jesus is the Word

Revelation 19:13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.

His robe was dipped in blood. Previously stained on the cross.

Jesus is the Word. The Bible is the Word of God in that it is the written record of God’s revelation of to man.

You are saved by the Word-LOGOS-Jesus.

John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

You are not saved or given eternal life by the written word. It is truth without any mixture of error; infallible. God spoke the Word that we have written. It is His Word. But: Jesus said it to the Pharisees. Eternal life, salvation is from Jesus life, death, burial and resurrection.

John 5:31 “If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true. 32 There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true. 33 You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth. 34 Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved. 35 He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light. 36 But I have a greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me. 37 And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form. 38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. 39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. 40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

The armies in heaven: These are God’s people (Revelation 17:14, Jude 14-15). There is little doubt that angels will also accompany Jesus and His people, but the main idea is that the Son of God leads the people of God from heaven against earth.

There is no mention of any kind of armor or weapon for any soldier in the great army that follows Jesus. The only armor or weapon they have is the only one they need: clothed in fine linen, white and clean.   Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword: The idea isn’t that Jesus holds a sword in his mouth like a buccaneer, or that He is “spitting swords.” This is a dramatic way of referring to the power of His Word. “Christ conquers by the power of His Word” (Johnson). Five times in the Book Revelation, John emphasizes that Jesus’ sword comes out of His mouth.   And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron: Jesus comes to rule and to reign in triumph, to rule the nations with a rod of iron as predicted in Psalm 2. He comes as KING OF KINGS to displace every king reigning on this earth. Enduring word commentary

  1. Respect the Majesty of Jesus

Revelation 19:16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

Two titles of majesty: King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

It was written on his Robe and on His thigh. By being on a horse his thigh would show. His Robe was prevalent.

No one knows His name could refer to the name Yahweh. Or YHWH

Clarke is among those who believe that the name written that no one knew except Himself is actually the tetragrammaton, the four letters YHWH that make up the name Yahweh, the sacred and secret name of God.

Rejoice in your name; given to you because of the Faithful and True, Word of God, and King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

There are many names given in the word of God for believers of Christ Jesus. Anointed 2 Corinthians 1:21-22 “Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God, 22 who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge.” Believers Beloved 1 John 4:10 “This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.” Blessed Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, Born Again Children of God Romans 8:16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, Christians Disciples Elect of God Faithful Followers of Jesus Christ Israel of God Justified That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:7 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. Acts 13:39 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Romans 3:24-26 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. Romans 3:28 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:1-2 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. Romans 8:30 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. Romans 8:33 For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord. 1 Corinthians 4:4 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:11 Overcomers Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.  By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.  For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.  For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 1 John 5:1-4 Partakers of Christ Prisoners of Christ Reconciled Redeemed Regenerated Renewed Sanctified Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth. John 17:17-19 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. Acts 20:32 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. Acts 26:18 That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost. Romans 15:16 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: 1 Corinthians 1:2 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:11 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.  For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Hebrews 10:10-14 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called: Jude 1:1 Saved Saints of God 2 To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, saints by calling, with all who in every place call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours: 3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4 I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus, 5 that in everything you were enriched in Him, in all speech and all knowledge, 6 even as the testimony concerning Christ was confirmed [d]in you, 7 so that you are not lacking in any gift, awaiting eagerly the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who will also confirm you to the end, blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Servants of God Servants of righteousness Sheep Strangers and Pilgrims Temple of God Watchmen   All because of Jesus we are made new, blessed, sanctified and sainted.

At the coming of Christ to establish His kingdom on the earth He will bring with him all of us, along with the angels in the victory of victories.

He comes riding on a white horse this Faithful and True One, This Word of God, This King of Kings and Lord of Lords and brings along His People of the Kingdom.
