Three guys had a friend to die. All were believers and as they looked into the casket one of them asked: “I was just thinking what I would like for people to say as they looked in on me. I would want them to say that I was a good family man, a man of the Word and a church-goer. The second man said. “I would want them to say I was a spiritual leader, a good husband and faithful to my family. The third thought a minute and said, I want them to say. “LOOK HE’S MOVING”

As we look at this passage this morning we will see that God is moving towards the climax of history and with a purpose in mind for everything that happens.

REVELATION 17:14-18

17:14 These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.” 17:15 And he said to me, “The waters which you saw where the harlot sits, are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues. 16 And the ten horns which you saw, and the beast, these will hate the harlot and will make her desolate and naked, and will eat her flesh and will burn her up with fire. 17 For God has put it in their hearts to execute His purpose by having a common purpose, and by giving their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God will be fulfilled. 18 The woman whom you saw is the great city, which reigns over the kings of the earth.”

Why did you do that? Was it an accident or was it on purpose? A Purpose; for a reason.

What God does; He does on purpose; for a reason.

That is the explanation of what is happening at the end of the reign of the harlot who sits on the waters; or on the peoples, multitudes, and nations, and tongues. The Beast is devouring the harlot; the powerful one world religion; one world religious system that the beast or the ten nation confederation used to accomplish its purpose of world domination. It would appear the Beast is in control. The powerful have won. But there is one major problem for the Beast. He is not the most powerful.

17:14 These will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because He is Lord of lords and King of kings, and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.” He will wage war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will win. I told you we were on the winning side. The lamb would appear as the weakest of animals. Almost any animal can destroy a lamb and yet the Bible calls Jesus, The LAMB OF GOD. Now we have changed from a little white lamb to the sacrificial Lamb of God. The blood of the Lamb has destroyed sin, Satan, and the evil of the world and we are seeing that end come to fruition. The Beast is the aggressor. That would mean the Beast believes he is able to attack and win. When do you want to be the aggressor? When you are pretty sure you can win. Otherwise you will try to make peace. The setting is now; the Beast is ready to attack. The only problem is that the Lamb is the Lamb of God; the Lord of Lord; and the King of Kings. He is the most powerful of all super heroes. Super heroes—pics I personally am not much into super heroes, Superman, Batman, Hercules, Spiderman, Captain America, the Incredibles, Iron Man, Wonder Woman, Popeye and Zorro but I am really into Oliver; my neighborhood feral cat. Of course also there are the partners of superheroes. You all are aware that Robin could beat up Batman any day of the week. All of that to say that before the story begins you know who is going to win. The hero always wins. Now in this case the one who thinks he is the hero is the Beast. Not only is he wrong, but so wrong that he has not faced the reality. The Lamb he is challenging has a hidden asset. The Heavenly Father is aware of the end, but is also fulfilling His purpose for all the ages in finally destroying the enemy of evil, Satan himself. The war of good and evil is coming to a close. Satan and all his cohorts will soon be put into the Lake of Fire. Now something else is about to happen that is the most amazing of all. This Lamb of God will defeat the Beast, but He will not be alone. “and those who are with Him are the called and chosen and faithful.” Three characteristics of the believers who will be with Christ when the Beast is defeated; called chosen faithful The true believers are those who are called of God, chosen by God and faithful to God. What a joy it will be for all believers to see the evil world government of the evil one defeated. Three major things are happening here: 1. The Lamb of God is defeating the Beast 2. Before that happens the ten nation confederacy and the beast will devour the harlot by eating her flesh and burning her with fire;

17:1 “Come here, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters,”

17:15 “The waters which you saw where the harlot sits, are peoples and multitudes and nations and tongues. The harlot (one world religion) is being judged. The harlot has her power from the people (the many waters). Now the harlot is being destroyed (one world religion) by the 10 nation confederacy which is controlled by the Antichrist or the Beast and ultimately by Satan. The concept of Babylon from Enduring Word WEB SITE   Revelation 16:19 and 14:8 have already declared Babylon’s fall. In Revelation 17 and 18, the fall of Babylon is carefully detailed.   Babylon is mentioned 287 times in the Scriptures, more than any other city except Jerusalem.   Babylon was a literal city on the Euphrates River. Genesis 11:1-10 shows that right after the flood, Babylon “was the seat of the civilization that expressed organized hostility to God.” (Tenney)   Babylon was later the capitol of the empire that cruelly conquered Judah. “Babylon, to them (the Jews), was the essence of all evil, the embodiment of cruelty, the foe of God’s people, and the lasting type of sin, carnality, lust and greed.” (Tenney)   To those familiar with the Old Testament, the name Babylon is associated with organized idolatry, blasphemy and the persecution of God’s people.   “In John’s day Rome epitomized all the antagonism and opposition to the Christian faith.” (Mounce) In some ways, the city of Rome was the clearest fulfillment of the Babylon attitude. If we had to pick one city today that most exemplifies the world system, perhaps we would say that Los Angeles is the Babylon of today.   The concept of Babylon is greater than Revelation 17-18 and the Antichrist’s reign. Babylon was present in John’s day (typified by Rome), in our day, and throughout history, as the world system. But under the Antichrist, Babylon (in both its religious and commercial aspects) will have influence over the earth as never before. Today that could be almost anywhere from Rome to Hollywood.

3.The Ten Nation Confederacy will yield its power to one man (The Antichrist) seemingly very willingly. This Antichrist becomes a one-world dictator. It is no wonder that every brutal dictator who began to conquer nation after nation was thought of to be the Antichrist; from Alexander the Great, to Napoleon, to Hitler, to Stalin, to Saddam Hussein, to Syrian President Bashar Assad.

One of the questions that we should ask is WHY would a powerful 10 nation confederacy; the revived Roman Empire with kings and leaders turn over their power and wealth to a one world dictator? One reason sticks out the most: 17:17 For God has put it in their hearts to execute His purpose by having a common purpose, and by giving their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God will be fulfilled.

Obviously these ten nations are not Christ loving, God fearing nations; in fact the opposite. They have just annihilated the world religion. Then why? Because it was in the purpose of God. I am reminded of the words of Job: Job 42:2 “I know that you can do anything, and no one can stop you.” (NLT) Job 42:2 “I know that You can do all things,
And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.” (NASB) God’s purpose, God’s plan, God’s intentions, God’s reasons are always right. He allows us to make choices and plans, but His will is ultimately accomplished. Proverbs 16:9 “The mind of man plans his way,
But the Lord directs his steps.” (NASB) You can plan all day long, but ultimately the plans are God’s plans. He can bring good from bad decisions, and actions. He can bring joy from sorrow and healing from pain. He can override your choices. No purpose of God can be undone. In God’s plan Satan will be defeated. He will use the harlot, the beast or antichrist and a one world religion and one world government to accomplish His purpose. He will destroy them all. Two Trouble Makers A couple had two little mischievous boys, ages 8 and 10. They were always getting into trouble, and their parents knew that if any mischief occurred in their town, their sons would get the blame.

The boys’ mother heard that a clergyman in town had been successful in disciplining children, so she asked if he would speak with her boys. The clergyman agreed and asked to see them individually.

So, the mother sent her 8-year-old first, in the morning, with the older boy to see the clergyman in the afternoon.

The clergyman, a huge man with a booming voice, sat the younger boy down and asked him sternly, “Where is God?”

They boy’s mouth dropped open, but he made no response, sitting there with his mouth hanging open.

The clergyman repeated the question. “Where is God?”

Again, the boy made no attempt to answer.

So, the clergyman raised his voice some more and shook his finger in the boy’s face and bellowed, “Where is God!?”

The boy screamed and bolted from the room. He ran directly home and dove into his closet, slamming the door behind him.

When his older brother found him in the closet, he asked, “What happened?”

The younger brother, gasping for breath, replied: “We are in real BIG trouble this time! God is missing, and they think we did it!”

Let me assure you that God is not missing. In fact He is alive and well and has already planned the future that will end all the evil in the world.

The Lamb of God will be victorious. It has been God’s plan since before the foundations of the earth to defeat the evil that is personified in Satan, the beast and the false religion. He is truly the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world, and the Lord of Lord’s and the King of King’s. Whose side are you on? If all of this took place today are you assured you are on the winning team? Have you placed your faith in Jesus Christ and Him alone to give you eternal life? Why not right now.
